Why this matters under FTC rules
Under the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), any website that has a "material connection" with a company it reviews or endorses must clearly disclose that relationship. A material connection includes — but is not limited to — affiliate commissions, free products, sponsorships, paid placements, employment, or an ownership stake.
Because Top 10 Printer has none of those connections with any printer manufacturer or retailer at the time of this writing, our disclosure is simply a statement of that independence.
What we commit to
- No affiliate commissions. We do not participate in Amazon Associates, retailer affiliate programs, commission-tracking networks, or any similar arrangement that would pay us when you buy a printer.
- No paid placements. No manufacturer or retailer has ever paid — in cash or in kind — for a specific ranking, a "best of" slot, or featured coverage on this site.
- No review units. We do not accept free printers, extended loan units, or pre-production hardware from manufacturers in exchange for reviews. All research is based on publicly available specification data.
- No content sponsorship. We do not accept payment to publish articles, "best of" lists, or sponsored posts in any form.
- No hidden advertising. If the site displays advertising in the future, it will be clearly labelled as advertising and segregated from editorial content.
If this ever changes
Like any publisher, we may eventually decide to introduce affiliate links, advertising, or another revenue model. If we do, we commit to the following before any such change goes live:
- This page will be updated to describe the new arrangement in plain language.
- A clear, prominent disclosure will appear at the top of every page that contains affiliate links.
- Any "best of" rankings that use affiliate-linked products will be reviewed to confirm the ranking methodology has not changed.
- The change will be announced with a dated note on this page and on our Editorial Standards page.
How we actually fund the site
Top 10 Printer is a self-funded independent publication. Operational costs (hosting, research time, data verification, design) are covered by the publisher. We chose this model specifically to eliminate any financial incentive that could distort our rankings.
