1. Sources & research
Every printer listed on Top 10 Printer is researched using a strict source hierarchy. Primary sources always take precedence over secondary sources.
- Manufacturer datasheets (PDF) — the official specification document published by HP, Canon, Epson, Brother, or the relevant OEM.
- Manufacturer product pages — the official retail product page on the manufacturer's website.
- Manufacturer support documentation — user manuals, service guides, and consumables lists.
- Authoritative regulatory data — EPA Energy Star certification database, FCC filings, Blue Angel environmental listings.
- Retailer listings (for pricing only) — starting MSRP values from major retailers when manufacturer pricing is unavailable.
We do not use content farms, user-generated review aggregators, or third-party "best of" lists as sources for specifications. User reviews may be read for context but never cited as authoritative specs.
2. Ranking & recommendation methodology
All "best for" recommendations and category rankings are derived algorithmically from the same set of objective specification fields applied uniformly across every printer in our database:
- Print speed (pages per minute, ISO-measured where published)
- Print resolution (DPI)
- Monthly duty cycle (max pages per month per manufacturer)
- Cost per page (derived from manufacturer-rated cartridge yields)
- Connectivity feature set (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB, Bluetooth, NFC)
- Category fit (home, office, photo, desk, budget)
- Starting price (MSRP)
A single printer cannot be ranked above another due to subjective editorial preference, manufacturer relationship, or commercial reason. If two printers tie on the relevant scoring criteria, we disclose both as tied.
Full methodology available on our dedicated Methodology page.
3. Editorial independence
Top 10 Printer is an independent publisher. As of the last review date above:
- We do not earn affiliate commissions from any printer purchase.
- We do not accept paid placements, sponsored rankings, or "featured" slots.
- No manufacturer or retailer has input into what we publish, how we rank printers, or which products appear on our "best of" pages.
- We do not accept free review units from manufacturers in exchange for coverage. All product research is conducted from publicly available specification documents.
If this policy ever changes, a prominent disclosure will appear on every page of the site before the new arrangement goes live. See our full affiliate disclosure.
4. Corrections & updates policy
Accuracy matters. When we discover or are notified of a factual error on this site, we commit to the following response process:
- Acknowledge within 2 business days of receiving a correction request.
- Verify the correction against the primary manufacturer source.
- Update the affected page within 5 business days of verification.
- Log the change by updating the "Last reviewed" date visible at the top of each content page.
- For significant changes (e.g., a ranking position changes because a spec was wrong), a brief correction note is added to the page explaining what changed and when.
To submit a correction, email editorial@top10printer.com with the page URL and the specific claim you believe is inaccurate.
5. Fact-checking process
Every printer record in our database is verified against at least two independent manufacturer sources (e.g. datasheet PDF + official product page) before publication. Specs that cannot be corroborated are marked as "unavailable" rather than estimated or guessed.
Editorial articles (such as the Buying Guide) are reviewed by a second editor before publication. Technical claims (e.g. "laser toner typically lasts 2,000+ pages at 5% coverage") are cross-referenced against industry-standard ISO yield measurements and clearly stated as ranges, not absolutes.
6. AI & automation disclosure
Top 10 Printer uses automation to help summarise manufacturer datasheets and auto-generate per-printer "key strengths" and "key considerations" panels from the underlying spec data. Every auto-generated panel is reviewed by a human editor before the printer record is published on the site.
The site also offers an optional AI Buying Assistant. The assistant's recommendations are drawn exclusively from our internal printer database and are labelled as AI-generated so readers can distinguish them from editorial content.
Editorial articles (Buying Guide, About, FAQ, this policy) are written by human editors. AI is not used to generate editorial opinions or recommendations.
7. Conflicts of interest
No member of the Top 10 Printer editorial team holds equity, employment, or a paid advisory position with any printer manufacturer or retailer covered on this site. Editors are required to disclose any potential conflict to the editorial lead before participating in coverage decisions.
8. Contact the editorial team

These policies are reviewed at least annually and updated as our operations evolve. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent review.
